Dr Connell is our Specialist Vein Physician who will see you for your initial assessment which includes an Ultrasound examination of your veins. He is one of the doctors who pioneered the introduction of non-surgical treatments for varicose veins into New Zealand, including the procedures of Ultrasound Guided Sclerotherapy and Endovenous laser Ablation, making surgical treatments mostly unnecessary. He specialised in the non-surgical treatment of varicose veins in 1997 and is a member of the Australasian College of Phlebology (study & treatment of veins). He has a postgraduate Diploma in Procedural Phlebology and performs Endovenous Laser Ablation, Ultrasound Guided Sclerotherapy, Sclerotherapy, Microsclerotherapy and Radiofrequency Ablation.
Dr Connell is a graduate of the University of Otago Medical School, training both in Dunedin and Wellington. He worked as a doctor in Dunedin and London before settling in Auckland as a General Practitioner and GP Obstetrician. Along with his clinical work he has been a Senior Clinical Lecturer at the University of Auckland Medical School. After stopping GP Obstetrics he has worked primarily both as a Vein Physician at the Varicose Vein Clinic and a General Practitioner.
